August 16 Prawns and photos!!Just a quick blog, because I turn into a mouse (fast asleep!) at Midnight lol
The prawns were delicious, eaten with fresh bread and lashings of butter - is your mouth watering yet?? Aren't I mean !!!
I have uploaded some pics to an August album, hopefully if the weather stays good there will be more. The photo below is a begonia, one of my favourite flowers, very showy and colourful!
Wishing you all a really good week, take care xxx
August 15 I haven't forgotten you all!!
Hi everyone, I expect you wondered where I had gone to? Well my husband has been on holiday this week and is off all next week too, so we are trying to have a nice holiday from home, BUT the weather is really playing against us at the moment. Today has been lovely, but we have been busy doing ordinary stuff to get out and enjoy it much! We did get out to Richborough Roman Fort earlier in the week, it was blowing a gale, but was sunny and dry which was something!! I did get some some good photos and will get an August Album up as soon as I can, otherwise it will be September....... My daughter passed all her AS exams, which is good news for next year, and she passed her first A2 (A level for those of you who are confused!!) in History with flying colours, so next year she needs to get two more good marks, which will then determine which University she can go to - I will keep you all posted on that as the time goes on :) Thjs weekend she is at the 'V Festival' in Chelmsford, I hope her and her friends have a good time, and that the weather stays good for them :) My husband, son and sister in law have gone prawning, so hopefully we will be having a very tasty supper later - my tummy is rumbling already!! Wishing you all a super weekend, I will catch up with you all as soon as I can, I hope the weather stays good for us all! x
August 06 Fireworks in July
Yes, I know its August now, I am just a bit slow in sorting things out!! Well the fireworks were last Wednesday, usually they are let off from the end of the pier, so I wondered what would happen this year, as the end of the pier is still a building site! My daughter and I set off at 10pm, heading for the beach just in front of the castle, which is where we usually go to watch the fireworks. There were hundreds of people roaming around, which is nice to see, as usually the seafront at this time of night is not very busy at all. The fair was still open, so there were the rides all lit up and music blaring out too. As we approached the castle, my eagle eyed daughter spotted a fence that had been put up on the beach where we normally go, so we decided not to go any further and found an empty space on the beach to sit and wait. We couldn't have found a better spot...the fireworks were let off about 100 yards away from us, and as ever, were fantastic. I had the chance to try the 'firework' setting on the camera, some shots were good, some just interesting from the patterns they showed, but all in all I was pretty pleased with the results. It was a lovely evening, very clear, unlike the following day when the rain set in just an hour before the Carnival Procession started!!! The fair has now gone, so we are back to our usual, sleepy selves again. I am hoping to get out and about a bit over the next couple of weeks, so I will see what interesting things I can find to photograph, I am sure I will find something.... I hope everyone is having a good week :)
July 25 Flower Festival, St Mary's Church, Eastry
Last Sunday I felt like doing something other than stick round the house, and I had noticed there was a Flower Festival in St Mary's Church, Eastry, all over the weekend. I asked my 'partner in crime' for visiting places (my son!!) if he would like to come with me. Now he loves growing things in the garden but, being 13 he declined to come with me to the Festival (hmmmm, can't think why??!!) so I went on my own. I like Flower Festivals, and I haven't been to this particular church for a very long time, but I remembered it was a lovely place, so I was more than happy to go on my own. The Festival had been shown on the Local News programme on the television the night before, and I have to say it was a wonderful sight as you walked through the door - what could be nicer than an old church decorated with gorgeous flowers, and the chance to take lots of photos? One of the ladies 'on duty' in the church was one of our customers in the Library, so I had a nice chat with her before I came out, then set off to find the 'back way' home. There are lots of tiny roads, and very pretty cottages going this way, but I couldn't stop and take any more photos as my battery had run out by this time, so I just enjoyed getting a bit lost, and seeing some of the countryside usually missed when travelling along the main roads - the single track roads are good fun too...especially when you meet a Land Rover coming the other way, and no passing places to be seen nearby...we soon resolved that little problem though, waved politely to each other and carried on. I have just uploaded an album of the Church and the flowers - my favourite? The row of 'pearls' leading up to the altar, they were just amazing, but then all the flowers were wonderful. Flower Festivals may not be everyone's idea of a nice afternoon out, but I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, and will make sure I go along again next year. I have got lots of work on again next week, so may not be around much, I hope you all have a great weekend and coming week. xx Got an award!!Imagine my pleasure when I visited AnnieB's blog last week to find I had been given an award for my space, I was very pleased as you can imagine! I am supposed to nominate 7 other blogs for this award - I have wracked my brain trying to think of 7 of you to give this award to, but to be honest to pick only 7 of you would be totally unfair, as each and every one of you has a unique, interesting and lovely Space! There is a real community spirit here on Spaces, we all have our ups and downs, but are willing to help and share with all our friends, so I really do think it ought to be an award shared amongst us all. Its a beautiful day here, I am hoping to get the kids sorted in their various activities, and maybe take my camera for a walk - it needs some excercise.....lol. Enjoy your day everyone xxxxx July 22 My sons trip to the Norfolk BroadsWell it happened again, I spent ages typing out a lovely long blog, tried to save it as a draft, but that service was our of order so copied it, and tried to paste it into a word document, NO my computer wasn't having that - I am starting to wonder if my computer is starting a long, lingering death.......so I will try once more and if it doesn't work this time you may find my computer in the garden!!!!
Now where was I? Oh yes, well my son got back safely from his Norfolk Broads trip, he had a wonderful time, and was worn out when he got back, I think he spent the entire weekend on his computer lol Also as expected everything he took with him (and I mean everything!!) needed washing, so our house looked a bit like a Chinese Laundry for a day. All caught up now - phew!!! He now has my old camera, so he went off on his trip with strict instructions to take some photos of windmills for me - he did just as I asked, and took hundreds....I will put up an album of some of his pictures when I have finished this, I am getting a bit worried, he is getting at good at taking pictures as I am LOL
In my last blog I said I like bright things, I will add a picture to this blog (if I Can!!!!) to show you my flower pots just outside the kitchen door. They are coming along nicely but as you can still see pots, its not quite there yet! I will take another photo in a week or two, when I hope all the pots will have disappeared from sight. I think this display is bright enough for anyone don't you?
Its a beautiful day here today, proper summer at last. I have my suite covers on the line, and will be having my lunch in the garden really soon :) I hope you are all getting the same, lovely weather - make the most of it :)
July 15 I have gone all pink.........well my Space has anyway! lol The grey and black were very stylish and refined, which I am not!!!! I am more your bright as anything person, meaning I like bright colours, and I hope I am a little bit bright....(no rude replies to that please ) I do like my rose picture as the background, but may tone down the other pinks, I will see how much it hurts my eyes when I sign in here tomorrow.
As my son is away this week, I seem to be catching up a bit with all sorts of things, well the washing has shrunk for one thing, but I will make up for that at the weekend. I had a text from him yesterday saying he was having a great time, I am sure he will be shattered when he gets back on Friday
I have uploaded some more pics to the July album, including some of Deal Castle and the beach yesterday morning. It was a beautiful day, sadly its not so good today..
I am off to see if my kitchen floor is dry and to grab some lunch. xxxxx
July 11 Cambridge revisited and other things!I can't believe that its taken me this long to get this blog done!! Already its over a week since our return trip to Cambridge....
We had a lovely day wandering around all the colleges in Cambridge, and met a really nice guy who gave my daughter some great tips for her interview when the time comes, he didn't say, but we think he must have been someone quite important in St Johns College.... We had a tour round Kings College, the Library there is just to die for, my daughter wants to go and live in there (the library LOL) and then we had a really good look round St. Johns College with a lovely young man as a guide, he was funny, interesting, and worked very hard at explaining everything he could, he was a real credit to the college. St Johns College is an amazing place, as you will see when you look at the pictures. We found Sir Isaac Newtons apple tree (Trinity College), 'The Bridge of Sighs' (St Johns College) and we explored Queens College, with its wonderful Tudor Building.. We bought fudge, but this time the pigeons didn't get any.... we saw baby moorhens which were just sooo cute, their little wings were only about an inch long....and we sat in the sunshine and ate ice cream, well I did anyway, because my daughter was attending a lecture, and I was worn out with all the walking!!!!! It did rain quite heavily at one point, but not for long and we were inside at that time, so it didn't bother us lol. Cambridge itself was really busy, only to be expected on an Open Day, but it was a great day, and an amazing opportunity to look inside some of these places for both myself and my daughter, and for her to really think about if its the place for her to continue her studies...the AS results are out soon, and the applications for University places will begin in September/October. Its an exciting time for my daughter!
I was in the town this morning for the first time since my last blog, remember I told you about the notice? Well it has gone (no surprise there, and No it wasn't me honestly!!) Some peanuts in their shells had been put up into the tree, there were 3 squirrels have a lovely time running up the tree, grabbing a nut and then taking them off to their store - maybe a compromise has been reached? I hope so :)
The pier cafe is taking shape too, I haven't managed to get any pictures just recently but will update you when I do, it is due to open in September, at the end of the season!!! I have to say we have missed the cafe, the pier is great, but its much better knowing you can get a cuppa at the end if you want one lol
My son is going off tomorrow to the Norfolk Broads on a school trip, so I will be helping him to pack this evening. He is getting very excited, and I have been busy washing all his gear, charging up batteries etc. I have given him my old camera, and he has strict instructions to get Mum lots of photos of windmills.. why do I have this thing about windmills??? No idea, I just love to see them :) He is away all next week, and I have no work, so maybe I will get the house tidy and it will stay tidy...one thing is sure, it will be quiet without him, I really hope him and all his friends have a lovely time.
Wishing you all a really lovely weekend xxxx
July 02 Dover CastleThe pictures of Dover Castle were taken last night, I go to a cross stitch meeting once a fortnight so drive past the Castle then. I left a few minutes early as it was such a lovely evening, and managed to get these photos and still be on time for my meeting :) On my way home I drive past the windmill, I am still after the perfect shot of that, I know exactly what I want, and have seen it lots of times over the last few years, but have been unable to get the picture so far. The sun sets behind the windmill, so the windmill stands in silhoutte against the sky, its a fabulous sight, and I will snap it one day! Last night there were rain clouds just starting so I will have to try again another some other time.
In my album, 'Playing with my new camera' there are a couple of pictures of pigeons eating food left down for them, the squirrels have breakfast here too, its a lovely sight, and this is where I got the photos of the little mouse. I walked through there this morning, no pigeons, no squirrels and no food, instead there is a notice pinned to the tree, stating that it is an offence to leave food on a gravestone, (the date on this gravestone is 1870 something) and that by leaving food rats are being encouraged and that the ambience of the place was being altered because of the food...I can understand what they are getting at, I can't stand rats myself, but the food isn't there long enough for the rats to get it, by mid morning all the stuff has gone. The people who put the food down visit every day, knowing that they have helped to keep the squirrels alive during the winter, and getting some joy from that fact. I was tempted to put a little note on the tree reminding the church wardens that christianity asks that we care for all living creatures....I wonder how long the notice will stay on the tree??? Oh and by the way, I did notice some food on the ground near the above gravestone.....
We are off to Cambridge tomorrow, we are leaving at 6am, so I really ought to start getting some things organised and try to get to bed early, I know that won't happen though! The red dolly shoes are waiting to see action again, I don't think I will need fluffy socks this time, at least I really hope not :)
I will let you know later in the week how the trip goes, goodnight everyone :)
June 30 Churchyards and strawberries...........but not both together!
I will start with the churchyard - when we were kids we used to go all over the town 'playing.' In those days we kids were allowed to roam all over the place, to explore and use our very vivid imaginations to have real fun. Well one of our favourite places was the churchyard of a local church (pictures in latest album.) The churchyard was behind the church, it was, in my memory, a large walled area, almost a field, full of lovely old lichen covered gravestones, very overgrown, with tumbledown stones, gorgeous angel statues and lots of other things like that. We had some lovely games there I remember :)
I haven't been there for years, but I was parked very close to the church the other morning, so decided to go and see if it had changed an awful lot - well I think I could have cried! No neat and tidy, pretty graveyard here (which is what I was half expecting) but HOUSES - yes, honestly, they have built houses in the graveyard, now I didn't think that sort of thing was allowed, it just goes to show what 'progress' really means! I am just so glad I was able to see the churchyard as it was all those years ago - eeek, now I really sound old!!!!
Quick change of subject now, it was a gorgeous day yesterday, so we went off to our local 'pick your own' farm and got a big box of the most gorgeous, sun-warmed strawberries you can imagine, and yes, I know you are not supposed to eat them as you pick them, but be honest, how can you resist the odd half a dozen??? We brought them home, and had a big bowl full each after our barbecue, yup summer is really here.
I have got another frantic week ahead this week, including another trip to Cambridge on Thursday, a bit less of a touristy visit this time though, attending seminars etc with my daughter, so I am not sure if I will be able to get many pictures, but you know me - have camera, will take pictures somehow!!
Right I am just off to have another bowl of strawberries, cream and sugar - have I made you all jealous?? lol Take care everyone xx
June 25 The new camera and a mouse!I have just uploaded a lot of new photos, I have been having lots of fun with the new camera, as you can see there are lots of pictures of flowers and roses (well it is June!) but my prize pictures so far are the ones of the mouse!! I was totally thrilled when I spotted him, he was about 4 feet away from me, and I actually had the camera on the right setting! For all the years I have been walking through this little park this is only the second time I have ever spotted a mouse, the first time was a couple of weeks ago.....maybe he was waiting for me to get my new camera lol.
The beach pictures were taken this morning, the yachts were pretty much tiny dots out to sea, so I was very impressed when I realized I could see the people on board the boats....and the sun shining across the water was just wonderful.
In case any of you are wondering, I don't spend all my time with a camera in my hand, these are all photos that I take going about my daily life, with the exception of the beach pictures today - I just wandered across to the beach on my way to the shops 'just in case' - I am pleased I did, taking 15 minutes or so out is a great stress buster, and I get something to show for it too!!!
Doubtless there will many more pictures to come, I am getting used to the camera a little more, now I just need to get to grips with the 'tweaking' ......
Hope you are all having a lovely week xxxx
June 20 Cross stitch exchanges again :)For the second time in just over a week I typed out a nice blog for you, only for IE to inform that it 'had to close' and yes, you guessed it I hadn't saved the blog as a draft - grrrrr. So I took a deep breath, left it for a couple of hours and will try again...
As some of you know I am involved in organizing exchanges over on the EMS cross stitch board, the most recent one has been for a 'Redwork Pendibulle' Yes I can see the bewildered look on some of your faces from here, so I will try to explain. A 'pendibulle' is just a word for an unusual shape, and redwork is just backstitch done in red!
The piece I made was sent to France, and the piece I received came from France too, but from a different lady! It is beautifully done and I will add photos to the bottom of this blog (after I have saved this as a draft of course!!)
I have been having fun trying to get used to the new camera, I think it may take me a while, but I am very pleased with it, I just need to figure out all the dials, buttons etc and what they all do! Then hopefully while it is still summer (?!!) I can get out and about a bit and get some really nice pictures to share with you all :)
I have managed to get round a few of your spaces this evening, if I haven't managed to get round to yours, I am sorry, I will get to you all as soon as I can. Got to go to bed now because I need to be up early to get to Stonehenge....(joke! - see my last blog!) I hope the longest day tomorrow is the best day for you all, take care everyone. I will be back again soon :)
The 'pendibulle' I made and sent to France.
and the one I received in return :)
June 18 Stonehenge and a New Camera!!!After a very busy week last week I had today earmarked to catch up with some of you, but you know the saying 'the best laid plans......' and all that. Firstly my son is off school with a bad cold, he is already bored (and snuffling) and then my new camera turned up this morning, I am so excited and of course I had to play with it didn't I??? Its fantastic, and I have only just scratched the surface of what it can do...I have already taken one really good picture of a rose, which I will add to the June album, but really wanted to share the Stonehenge pictures with you all, as the longest day (and Midsummer Solstice) is on Saturday! Where has this year gone to already???
I have always been fascinated by Stonehenge and the photos were taken 4 years ago - somewhere I have photos of me as a teenager sitting on the stones, back then you could wander round at will, which was fantastic, you could really get a sense of the place. I often thought I would love to see the sun rise on midsummer morning, but I would want it to be me, a few friends and the Druids lol not the thousands who go there now.....
I will be round your spaces as soon as possible, wishing you all a lovely remainder of the week, and enjoy the longest day :)
June 06 The pier again!Ok I wrote this about an hour ago, then IE decided to close on me - grrrr
Not to worry I will try again - yesterday was a lovely day so my friend and I met up for coffee, and took her gorgeous granddaughter (who treats me like her slave lol) on to the pier to see how the building of the new cafe is coming along. So far it looks ok, I have uploaded some progress pictures into the 'Look what they have done to our Pier' album for you all to see, and I have added some pictures of the view from the pier looking back towards the shore as promised in an earlier blog. I think you will agree with me when I say its a fantastic view of the town, and the pier is the only place you get this view, so well worth the walk (and its better than doing the housework LOL)
I have also included a picture of the Timeball Tower, this was used in the past to let the shipping in The Downs get an accurate time - the ball rises to the top of the pole and daily at 1pm GMT precisely (the tower gets a signal from Greenwich) the ball drops. I believe this happens more frequently than once a day now, but it is interesting to watch.
No excuse to avoid the housework today, its raining! Still it does mean I don't have to water my flower pots lol I am hoping to get by some of your spaces later today, and wish you all a really happy weekend. take care everyone x
June 03 Birthdays and things :)It was my birthday yesterday, I am 39 again lol - well I can wish can't I ?? Many thanks to all of you that sent me birthday greetings, it made my day very special. An extra big thanks to my friend Angela the birthday spammer - she left 7 or was it 8 messages in different places all over the internet, I can't moan as it was me that started it for her birthday a while back. It was good fun trying to find them all, I think I tracked them down eventually
The weather wasn't too good, but I felt well - loved by the end of the day, and I got lots of money towards my 'new digital camera fund' so hopefully it won't be too long. Special thanks to Brian here for your advice on cameras, they have been a great help
Normality today, especially when I went out to the car this morning to find more damage to the wing mirror on my car, yesterday morning I found that someone had broken the glass on the passenger side wing mirror, so was going to buy a new glass today. This morning the I found the little darlings had been back last night and the glass has now totally disappeared, not lying in the road or anything else, its going to cost about £20 to replace, but I will try and park somewhere else tonight otherwise I might find the whole unit ripped off tomorrow morning!! The air was pretty blue this morning I can tell you, I can't park without my mirror (male drivers no comments please lol)
Have a lovely week everyone xxxx
